Cross-cultural comparison of fundamental movement skills in 9- to 10-year-old children from England and China

The present study aimed to examine cross-cultural differences in fundamental movement skills (FMS) proficiency levels children aged 9–10 years old England and China, using a process-oriented FMS measurement. Four (run, jump, throw, catch) were measured the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD-2). sample consisted 272 (58.3% boys, 41.7% girls) Chinese 273 (48.7% 51.3% English children. ANCOVA analysis for raw scores showed significant sex by country interaction ( P = .022, partial η 2 .01). scored higher than on total FMS, locomotor, object control skill subsets. Additional Chi-squared analyses revealed regarding mastery skills, with proportion being classified as having advanced across three four selected (i.e. run, catch). substantial found may be related aspects such Physical Education (PE) provision process, educational policy, other physical activity opportunities (e.g. extracurricular organised sports). Our findings require further examination contextual influences, order understand optimal strategies that promote children's development through PE, youth sports, or promotion.
